"Why RealArt?"
There was a "RealArt Theater" in downtown DeRidder at one time.
Respecting that history, we named our project: "RealArt DeRidder".
We also like the fact that it's provocative enough to make one ask: "Why RealArt?" :)
"What is an arts cooperative?"
An arts cooperative uses a horizontal management strategy. It's not the conventional "top-down" management structure
that you commonly see in business, government or the military. There will be coordinators who make decisions in their
respective areas but every artist has an equal voice in the process. This has enormous benefits and can create a
more vibrant and energetic group of creative people. If everyone feels that their point of view is being heard, everyone
feels more invested in the process ...and there will almost always be a more positive end result. As an arts
cooperative, the heart and soul of RealArt DeRidder (RAD) will be the Artists Board. Each artist member of RAD becomes
a member of our Artists Board and will have an equal vote on major decisions concerning the gallery.
How much does it cost to join?"
No dues will be asked for until we have the gallery space up and going but we're initially asking artists to pay $60
a year. For that, you'll have the ability to be part of our regularly scheduled group shows and possibly a year
round continuing exhibition of your work (dependent on the gallery space) and a webpage designed to your specs, to
display your work online. For $100 a year, you can schedule your own one person show at RealArt. Details are being
worked out on our non-artist membership, patronage and corporate sponsorships but we hope to have convenient plans
available with a wide variety of benefits for those in the community who want to be part of this exciting process.
