He graduated from DeRidder High School in 1971 and Louisiana Technical University in 1975 with a Bachelors Degree in Advertising Design. Joey and his wife, Cheryl, are owners of Governale Sign Company as well as his 'Gooberfolkart' Gallery both located at 216 Mahlon Street DeRidder LA. Joey has been in the sign business since 1980. He began creating folk art in 2005 as a hobby and a form of artistic expression. "I get my ideas from just living in Louisiana, where we are surrounded by critters that hop, fly, crawl and swim", says folkartist Joey. He also has created humorous 'goobersigns' and some religious icon art pieces. You can view and purchase some of them on our website. They have sold numerous pieces of folkart, which are now located nationwide, in their gallery and at festivals as 'craft tent vendors'. ![]() ![]() ![]()
