Hannah Vincent, born October 28, 1985, grew up in Dry Creek. As a child she always sought
creative means of entertainment through various creative processes. Drawn to the human form,
and all of its interworking structures, Hannah sought further education in the arts. From
2002-2004 she attended the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. She received
awards in set design and was commissioned to carve a chocolate sculpture for the '04 Chocolate
Fantasia for a women's shelter.
After graduating from high school, Hannah attended The University of Louisiana in Lafayette
'05-'06. She transferred to McNeese State University to be closer to home. Also, in '04,
Hannah was in a car accident that almost killed her. Having suffered various injuries she had
to learn to modify her work to suit her physical means while satisfying her artistic prowess.
The Forward/Backward series uses the often forgotten bombing of Dresden to reference the
current war in Iran/Iraq and the Red Scare of WWII. It's seems no matter how far we come,
we're always going back.
Hannah's Buddhist/Taoist beliefs weaves their way through her sculptural forms. Light and dark,
beautiful and disgusting, love and hate, etc. are all the same, connected in a twisting,
pushing, pulling gesture of pursuit. 'Lovers Schism' embodies the unification of all the
dichotomous factors of the human condition.
